Buyers Moving to Orlando Leads to Increase in Population and Sales
Recently, demographer Wendell Cox performed an analysis of population data that ranked Orlando as the 4th fastest growing metropolitan area in the nation. With world-renowned attractions and mild temperatures year round, it is no wonder that Orlando is a popular destination for home buyers and Florida home builders are picking up the pace to keep up with housing demand.
According to the population analysis, from 2000 to 2012 Orlando’s population grew by 566,839 individuals or 34.2 percent. Within this growth, the child population has increased by 20 percent or more since 2000.
As individuals move to Orlando and expand their families, they need homes to buy. In February, Orlando’s single-family home sales outperformed expectations with the median home price increasing to $148,800, a 14.5 percent increase from a year earlier. The median number of days spent on the market dropped about 15 percent for single-family homes as the number of inventory homes has dwindled and buyer demand increased. Home builders, including Highland Homes, have increased their pace of new construction to keep up with demand and provide buyers with housing options.
Highland Homes is currently building beautiful Orlando new homes at two communities in metro Orlando: Deer Creek in St. Cloud and Whitemarsh in Leesburg. New homes are also available at Highland Meadows in nearby Davenport.
