Does your home need wind mitigation?
Like many programs , there was zero dollars to fund the My Safe Florida Home(MSFH) program and it had to be discontinued. As of June 30th, 2009, the MSFH wind mitigation inspectors certified by the State are no longer valid to sign the Wind/Loss Mitigation form (Form OIR 1802). As of July 1, 209, insurance carriers will require the Inspector Section of the form to be signed by one of the following:
- A Certified Building Inspector
- Licensed General, Building, or Residential Contractor
- Licensed as a professional Engineer who have passed the appropriate equivalency test of the Building Code Training Program
- Licensed as a Professional Architect
BUT, the good news is that Florida Four Point has partnered with a Certified Building Contractor to facilitate both service and support. Once you receive a copy of your OIR 1802 Form, you’ll want to make sure that your insurance agency has a copy in order for your carrier to assess the appropriate discounts. This form is valid for up to 5 years, so it is recommended that you maintain a copy in a safe place. It should take between 2 and 3 days to receive your report. Florida Law requires your inspection to go through a QA process after the report is finalized. You and your insurance agency will receive a copy of the report signed by the QA department by email in most cases. If you think the report is incorrect, please contact the Florida Four Point Main Office, NOT your original inspector. If it does not look like you will save any money on your policy, Florida Four Point will avoid the inspection and let you know. Discounts continue for a minimum of 5 years and should continue to be applied when you change carriers.
OIR 1802 FORM looks at the following:
- Roof Covering
- Roof Deck Attachment
- Roof to Wall Attachment
- Roof Geometry
- Gable End Bracing
- Secondary Water Resistance or Secondary Water Barrier
- Opening Protection
The easiest way to request an inspection is by calling 800-823-1974 or by going to the Florida Four Point website.
