Scott ShapiroHighland Homes is in this news again! Scott Shapiro, the company’s Chief Financial Officer, was recently nominated and selected as a finalist for the CFO of the year by Tampa Bay Business Journal.

The event was held at the Quorum Hotel in Tampa and was well attended. The finalists were presented a plaque and received recognition for the hard work, dedication and results achieved in 2009. Scott was recognized as a finalist in the category of Large Businesses and was heralded by Owners Bob and Joel Adams as the reason Highland Homes is a thriving builder in Central Florida.

In today’s economy, most independent builders have closed their doors due to the downfall of the building industry. Highland Homes, on the other hand, has seen positive growth and sales for the past 2 years, due primarily to Scott’s efforts in restructuring the company’s land holdings. Scott was rarely seen in the office, located in Lakeland, Florida; because he was always behind closed doors managing the assets in order for the company to thrive in a down market.

Mr. Shapiro has spent the last nineteen years in homebuilding and “Big Four” public accounting, with a proven track record in financing, financial management, reporting, budgeting, treasury management, operations, business strategies and development.

While at his previous employer, Scott was an integral part of the management team that developed the core infrastructure, and during his tenure they built over 8,000 homes. Scott was responsible for the management of over $200 million of construction and acquisition and development financing. He was also charged with the oversight of a 55-acre (65,000 trees) tree farm joint venture operation. After 8 years with this company, Scott spent several years with a national builder in Georgia as one of the key members of the local operating management team. He spent much of his time coordinating and managing the feasibility process for acquisition of land and working with the customer service and construction team to enhance customer satisfaction. This experience with other companies proved to be invaluable to Highland Homes over the past few years.

The entire company is thankful and appreciative for having Scott on their team and is excited about the upcoming year.
