Enjoy the Holidays with Seasonal Events near Florida New Homes
The holiday season is in full swing, and when you live in one of Highland Homes’ Florida new home communities, you are near many fun holiday events and activities. Here is our guide to some of the best holiday events in Florida.
For families invested in the arts, there is no better way to celebrate the season than to take in a production of The Nutcracker, a holiday classic. For those who call Lakeland home, the Polk Theatre and Florida Dance Theatre are pleased to present their annual production of The Nutcracker on Dec. 14 and 15. Over 90 dancers join forces with the professionals of Florida Dance Theatre to bring the production to life. Tickets range from $15 to $25.
Recently, we announced that we will soon offer beautiful single-family homes at Hills of Arietta in Auburndale and the holiday season is a great opportunity to learn more about the city and spend time with your future neighbors. Join the City of Auburndale on Friday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. for the holiday edition of its downtown movie night. Featuring a holiday classic, “A Christmas Story,” this outdoor movie will be shown at Auburndale’s Downtown City Park. Movie-goers are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets. Admission to the movie is FREE and concessions will be available for purchase.
For residents of Winter Haven homes at Crescent View, Mandolin, Normandy Heights and Overlook Ridge, LEGOLAND Florida is hosting numerous holiday events on Saturdays and Sundays in December as part of their Christmas Bricktacular celebration. Children and families alike can view LEGO models of Santa Claus and even a 30-foot tall LEGO Christmas tree. Christmas Bricktacular will also feature a LEGO Santa scavenger hunt and a variety of holiday gifts and festivities so families can celebrate the season LEGO-style!
If frolicking in the snow is more up your alley, then you do not want to miss Winter Haven’s Snow Central event on Dec. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. in downtown Central Park. Snow is not something normally seen in the Sunshine State, but this unique event brings in over 70 tons of snow to create a whimsical winter wonderland. The whole family is invited to play on the snow slide, visit with Santa, take a ride on the kiddie train, jump in the bounce house, and enjoy all of the available holiday activities.
Santa is taking a trip south for a little relaxation and sunshine before he heads back to the blustery North Pole. Children who live in our new homes in St. Cloud are encouraged to take a Splash with Santa at the Chris Lyle Aquatic Center on Saturday, Dec. 14. Santa will arrive at the Aquatic Center at 2 p.m. and stay until 5 p.m. In addition to swimming, children ages 12 and younger will enjoy games, crafts and candy. We are not quite sure what Santa will wear in the pool, but it is sure to be an amusing, good time. This unique holiday event is $3 for Osceola residents and $4 for non-residents.
Also located just minutes from our St. Cloud homes at Deer Creek, children can enjoy a Cookies with Santa Workshop at the Civic Center on Saturday, Dec. 21. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., parents have the opportunity for some free time to shop while their kids make a Christmas gift for someone on their list. In addition to gift making, attendees will have lunch, play games, visit with Santa and of course eat cookies. The Cookies with Santa Workshop is available to children ages 6 to 11 and is $10 per child.

The Manatee Concert Band is offering more than one opportunity for residents of nearby new homes in Manatee County to enjoy listening to popular Christmas carols. On Friday, Dec. 13, the band will perform at the New Music Pavillion at Sutton Park in Palmetto. Beginning at 7 p.m., this family-friendly event is open to the public. On Sunday, Dec. 15, the band will perform at the Manatee Performing Arts Center beginning at 7 p.m. This concert is also open to the public.
Families can celebrate the holiday season and give back to charity when they visit Santa’s Magical Workshop in nearby Bradenton. Located at 1703 Palma Solva Blvd., Santa’s Magical Workshop features Santa and his elves in four unique rooms of holiday fun. Visitors will have the opportunity to view a Christmas Village and walk through a lighted holiday garden. This “magical” event is a fundraiser for the Gulf Shore Animal League and is $5 per person with children five and under admitted free. Santa’s Magical Workshop will be open 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, Sunday, Dec. 15, Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22.
With Tower Grove Estates and our newest Plant City community, Springfield, just minutes away from downtown Plant City, we encourage residents to join the City for its annual Christmas in the Park. Featuring inflatables, free food and more, this event is fun for the entire family. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center. Those who plan to attend should pre-register at the center or contact Lillie Brown at 813-757-9195.
To experience the delightful warmth and charm of an old-time holiday tradition, the Victorian Christmas Stroll at the Henry B. Plant Museum in Tampa. Daily through Dec. 23, strollers will carouse through the extravagantly decorated museum with dazzling trees decorated in 19th century themes, antique toys and accessories, carolers, and complimentary cider and cookies. For those with a competitive spirit, play the “Where’s Henry” game for an opportunity to win prizes. Tickets range from $5 to $13.
The annual Leesburg Main Street Christmas House is back and better than ever! Celebrating its 18th anniversary, this year’s Christmas House features more than 100 different holiday crafters and over 50,000 truly unique holiday decorations and gifts. The Christmas House is open seven days a week from now until Saturday, Dec. 14. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The Leesburg Main Street Christmas House is located at 712 W. Main Street.
On Saturday, Dec. 14, finish your holiday shopping when you stop by the Historic Fort King Street Holiday Art Show at Seven Sisters Inn. Featuring more than 30 artists, you are sure to find a unique, one-of-a-kind gift for everyone on your list. Items on display include paintings, sculpture and ceramic works, fashion accessories, jewelry, vintage clothing and much more. The Art Show will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Santa is coming to Ocala during the annual Ocala Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the parade showcases a variety of floats and local organizations who have worked hard to incorporate this year’s theme of “A Frosty White Christmas.” The Ocala Christmas Parade is popular among residents of Marion County and neighboring counties, so make sure to arrive early for a good seat. Roads will shut down at 4 p.m. to allow individuals to safely find a seat for the parade.
