Building Mu Dream Highland Home Walls Foundation and Exterior Block Walls

Welcome back! Things have certainly moved along with my new home since the last post. We now have a foundation and exterior walls!

You can't see it in the pictures, but about every 6-8 feet along the walls, and in every corner, there is piece of rebar that is cemented from the foundation all the way up to the top of the house, to tie the whole home together and make a strong exterior. When the roof is installed, Highland Homes also uses hurricane straps on every truss, which are the wood beams of the roof, to help secure the roof against wind.

A few posts ago, I mentioned the brochure checklist that Highland Homes gives you when you build a new home with them. In that brochure you can find tons of helpful information about mortgages, the building process, home warranties, and what happens after you move in.

I wanted to touch a bit on the construction process page. The folks at Highland group the construction into seven major steps because there are times when you have multiple things going on in your home construction at the same time. You can also find an online copy here.

So far, I have gone through the Builder Orientation, and my foundation is completed. The construction process guide is very helpful for me as it keeps my mind focused on the next step to expect in the process.

My Personal Builder said that my roof will be installed soon, and the framing the next day — it may already be done by the time you read this! I look forward to sharing with you the next steps in the construction of my new home! See you in a few weeks!
