Renters more Confident in Homeownership: Likely to Buy in Next Two Years

Central Florida new homeCentral Florida new home sales progressively grew in 2012 and if Trulia’s latest American Dream survey is any indication, home sales are about to get even stronger. Millennial renters are more confident that homeownership is in their near future as the job market grows stronger.

Data from the survey shows that more than one in four Americans are more positive about homeownership than they were six months ago and 31 percent of today’s renters want to buy a home in the next two years. Results of the survey show that the younger the renter, the more likely they are to purchase a home some day. 93 percent of renters ages 18-34 said that they plan on purchasing as opposed to 39 percent of renters 55 years and older.

An increase in home sales has depleted inventory homes, so in order to keep up with buyer demand home builders have increased construction starts (up 42 percent year-over-year in October).
