On Aug. 27, 2014, Polk Vision and the Polk Transportation Planning Organization recognized the city and private entities that make Polk County an amazing place to live with the Livable Polk Awards. With 17 incorporated cities in Polk County, Winter Haven came out on top – sweeping many of the award categories.
The Livable Polk Awards are designed to “recognize conservation and sustainable development and healthy community design efforts that go beyond the ordinary and set an example for what can be done in Polk County.” Winter Haven started the night by sweeping all four categories of the Community Recognition Awards. Happy September! It is a very happy time for me because my new home is now in the drywall stage of home construction, which means we are about 75 percent complete!
The drywall has been installed, sanded, and the knockdown wall and ceiling texture applied. Once the drywall and textured finish had time to dry, the painters came in and painted my home. (more…)
2014 has been a great year for Polk County real estate as buyer demand has created an increase in new home construction.
In July, 218 permits for single-family homes were recorded in Polk County, up 21.2 percent year-over-year and the highest total for the month of July since 2008. In addition, new construction permits year-to-date through July totaled 1,487, a 32.1 percent increase over the first seven months of 2013. (more…)
After years of planning and development, Florida Polytechnic University celebrated a milestone on Monday when it opened its doors for the first-ever class of students. As Florida’s 12th public state university, students at Florida Polytechnic University receive a unique education focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.). Following the announcement of our newest Lakeland community in May, it has been a busy summer at Saratoga in North Lakeland. We’ve already sold a few homes to lucky homeowners, released two inventory homes to begin construction, and construction is underway on our beautiful model home.

My-oh-my have things moved along in my new home! At the time of my last post, I had exterior walls up and a giant open space—now, there is a roof and interior walls are framed! This is when the building process really takes off as there is so much that goes inside the walls of a home.
To back track a little bit, I wanted to go over what happened step-by-step since my last post. After the exterior walls are built and inspected, the roof trusses are installed. They are not just ‘thrown’ up there; the truss package is engineered for strength and designed specifically for each home plan, and the trusses are securely anchored to the block walls with hurricane straps.
