Each year color experts announce their color of the year selection. This is the color meant to set the mood for trends, accents, and inspiration for outdoor or interior paint colors for the year.   

As we leave the blue hues of 2020 behind and look ahead at 2021, our exclusive color partner Sherwin-Williams announced Urbane Bronze as the 2021 color of the year. A color that Better Homes & Gardens describes as “a rich, bold neutral... a warm grounding shade of gray-brown intended to reflect our current need for serenity and stability”, a color suitable for interior or exterior walls, a front door, or furniture piece.

Bringing Nature Colors Indoors 

Inspired by elements found in nature, Urbane Bronze brings out an elemental quality expressed in its variety of uses. From a door to a dresser, Urbane Bronze lends itself to accentuate different areas and pieces in your home while also complementing a variety of other earth tones, as can be seen in some of the decor ideas on our Urbane Bronze Pinterest board. Highland Homes Design Studio Manager, Stacey Antonakos-Perez, thinks the color “is beautiful, very warm and welcoming, and can't wait to use more of it in our model homes." Pair it with white trim, a light gray wall, gold, or silver accessories to provide great contrast.

Urbane bronze is not alone in this elemental color wheel. It is accompanied by nine other earth tones as part of the Sanctuary palette of colors for the 2021 Sherwin-Williams color forecast, intended to add a sense of calm no matter the room. With names like Messenger Bag, Morris Room Grey, Oakmoss, and Modern Gray, these Sherwin-Williams paint colors complement each other in a way that is sure to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere in any room in your home.  

Combine the cappuccino froth hue of Modern Gray with an Urbane Bronze accent wall, and set up your spare room or home office for a soothing at-home workday or workout. Or, paint your guest bathroom with a partial Urbane Bronze wall for an added sense of comfort.

In addition to the Sanctuary palette, Sherwin-Williams provided its audience with three additional palettes that include 30 vibrant and neutral colors.

The Encounter palette collects not only colors found in nature; but muted hues from artisan pottery with Java and Rosemary, campfire settings in Reddened Earth, and warm weather skies in Jubilee. 

Continuum, on the other hand, provides more pops of bright colors, such as Moonraker and Limón Fresco. While still complemented by the toned-down yet intense hues of Cyberspace and Commodore, this vibrant palette adds a cheerful perspective to the 2021 color collection.

With the Tapestry palette, we jump right into what is possibly the best interior paint colors for Florida homes. With a name like Jovial as one of the colors in this family, this jovial collection is the subtle Kate Spade of these color families. With a dim grey undertone in Tricorn Black, a doughy Embellished Blue, and soft Jaipur Pink, each of these colors is easily accentuated by the variety of earthly shades in the palette, such as Enjoyable Yellow or Greek Villa.

It's not surprising other color professionals also picked tranquil earth tones in their color selections for 2021. Glidden selected Aqua Fiesta, Benjamin Moore named Aegean Teal as their color of the year and accompanied it with 11 toned-down earthly hues, and Valspar went all out and picked a dozen soft and soothing colors aptly named from Blissful Blue, Soft Candlelight, and Garden Flower.
