Believe it or not, the holiday season is here! Thanksgiving is less than a week away, retailers are already teasing Black Friday deals, and Christmas tree lots are starting to pop up around town. That means it’s time to start decorating your Lakeland home for the holiday season! If you need a little bit of jolly inspiration to get you in the decorating mood, turn on your favorite Christmas carol, grab a hot toddy, and read on for 10 ideas for festive holiday home décor!
1. Create a Homemade Advent Calendar
Counting down to Christmas day can be fun for the young and the young-at-heart! With retailers offering advent calendars full of everything from wine or skincare items and toys to chocolate, they’re all the rage this year! You can create your own advent calendar to ensure it’s filled with small trinkets or treats that your family will love.
2. Turn the Bar Cart into a Holiday Hot Cocoa Cart
We love the idea of creating a holiday beverage cart! Replace your mixers and liquor with coffee and hot cocoa, then include any toppings or mix-ins such as marshmallows, candy canes, milk and more! You can also include cider for those who may not want a sweet drink. If there will only be adults around, leave the liquors and schnapps on the carts so anyone who wants can turn their drink into an adult beverage!
3. Go Natural
Add in an element of the outdoors on your dining table with natural elements and earth tones. Classic black and white gingham is topped with wooden chargers, green garland and pinecones. To keep the tablescape from becoming too rustic, add in twinkling votives, bring white dinnerware, and festive linen napkins.
4. Bring the Outdoors In
We love the idea of bringing a few planters indoors during the winter season to give your home a seasonal touch. Wrap holiday ribbon around the planters or paint holiday messages on the front, and then fill with fresh pine clippings for a crisp scent, or put a few aspen logs in them wrapped with twinkling lights.
5. Don’t Forget the Bedroom
Your bedrooms often get overlooked, but adding a few holiday touches can fill your entire home with joy. Add in a few seasonal throw pillows or blankets, or place garland and string lights along the headboards.
6. Create a Holiday Card Display
We love the idea of displaying all of the holiday cards you receive during the season. Using corkboard, a few stencils and paint, you can create a holiday message board that coordinates with your holiday décor scheme while also providing you the perfect place to display those photo cards and holiday messages you’ll receive.
7. Add Citrus to Your Holiday Décor
Adding citrus into your holiday décor is the perfect way to add Florida flair into your home! Add lemons or oranges for a pop of color into the garland across your dining table. You can even look for citrus-themed ornaments for your tree!
8. Experiment with Color
Don’t be afraid to go non-traditional with your holiday color scheme! If you’ve visited Target lately, you’ve seen the whimsical, happy winter décor in bright colors. From colorful bottle brushes to bright textiles, you can truly incorporate any color into your holiday décor.
9. Color-Coordinate Your Wrapping
If you have a themed tree or a well color-coordinated room, consider matching your wrapping paper to fit your theme. With a little bit of searching the stores or perusing Amazon, you can find holiday wrapping paper in nearly every color, pattern, or scheme. Using coordinated wrapping supplies is the perfect way to elevate your home’s holiday décor.
10. Spruce Up the Kitchen
The kitchen is another room that often gets overlooked when it comes to seasonal décor because it’s generally viewed as a functional workspace, and not a well-decorated room. However, with a few touches, you can make it as festive as every other space in your home! Add mini wreaths along the front of your cabinets, place garland along the top of your cabinets, or add holiday treats in a glass jar on the counter.
