In October, we announced our expansion north to Ocala and we are not the only new development headed to the area. Recently, several companies have announced plans to expand or open for business near our upcoming new homes in Ocala at Meadow Glenn! Ocala-Marion County Commerce Park: If you have traveled on Northwest 35th Street near US 441 lately, you have probably noticed the road construction, which is nearing completion. The road, which has been widened to four lanes, is scheduled to open for use by the end of January. This road will now become a main entry-point for the 500-acre Ocala-Marion County Commerce Park. As construction on the road comes to an end, construction is underway on the Commerce Park’s first tenant, a FedEx distribution center. The 384,000 square-foot center is expected to open in March and will create a reported 165 jobs. Over the next few years, the expansion of Northwest 35th Street and Commerce Park will help to entice several new, large companies to the area. ProFab Headquarters: ProFab, a manufacturer of machined plastics and assembler of medical components, is moving its headquarters from Waukesha, Wis. to Ocala. Over the first 12 to 18 months, ProFab will create approximately 60 jobs within the Ocala area. While ProFab has primarily focuses on serving the medical business, it is looking to expand to any sector that can used machined plastics. ProFab is one of several companies to move its headquarters to Marion County this year, including Ansafone, Krauz Industries and R+L Carriers Inc. Silver Springs State Park: Silver Springs, one of Florida’s oldest tourist attractions, has merged with the Silver River State Park to form Silver Springs State Park. Featuring the glass-bottomed boats which have been operating at Silver Springs since the 1870’s, a new kayak launch, and renovated walkways, Silver Springs State Park perfectly showcases the beauty of Florida’s natural springs. In addition, renovations of the Park’s Twin Oaks Mansion are currently underway and a musical concert series is in the works. With a line-up that includes more contemporary and better known acts, concerts are expected to begin in February. As renovations continue, plans are also in place to add an ecotourism outfitter, zip line and other outdoor activities, and high-end eatery to the mix. Ocala International Airport: Approximately 90 percent of the City of Ocala’s master plan for Ocala International Airport is complete which in part looks at the best way to phase in development of the airport’s west side. While the airport will remain a general aviation airport, the city has invested $5 million in water, sewer, electric, telecommunications and roads in an effort to lure companies to locate their businesses at the airport. In addition the airport has lengthened the runway, widened the apron, installed new lighting and built a control tower. Upcoming developments include an updated terminal building with crew rest areas, meeting rooms, and restaurants, and a new taxiway that could accommodate a Boeing 767 aircraft. People Dedicated to Quality (PDQ): 3410 SW College Road, a location that has been a Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon and a short-lived Japanese restaurant, is getting a new tenant. PDQ, the quick service restaurant which counts Tim Tebow and Vinny Testaverde as investors, is expected to open for business in 2014. In order to provide a quality dining experience, the current building will be demolished and a gleaming new building will be constructed. PDQ’s menu features hand-breaded chicken tenders and sandwiches, turkey sandwiches, fresh-cut French fries, salads and hand-spun milkshakes. Ocala has a lot of exciting development in the works and we are excited to be a part of that.
