The holidays are around the corner and it’s time to deck the halls! If this is your first holiday season in your new Florida home, we know you’re probably excited to start decorating. Sprinkling a bit of holiday cheer around your home doesn’t have to be a big undertaking — with a little bit of creativity (and help from Pinterest), you can create simple, budget-friendly décor that will fill your home with a festive feeling!
Here are 10 of our favorite DIY Christmas decoration ideas to deck the halls in your Florida home:
Mason Jar Lights — The simplicity of these mason jar lights makes them perfect for any home and they will more than likely complement your home’s Florida décor. Mason jars can be painted, frosted, or glitter-covered for a snowy effect. For a nature-inspired look, add pieces of faux evergreen, berries or mini pine cones with raffia ribbon. Or, consider spelling the word J-O-Y across three mason jars festooned with ribbon and jingle bells.
3D Paper Snowflakes — Just because it (almost) never snows in Florida doesn’t mean you can't enjoy sparkling snowflakes inside your Florida home! We love these 3D paper snowflakes because they are something the whole family can make, and they look both festive and elegant. Plus, this simple craft require minimal supplies.
Front Door and Coach Light Swag — When you deck the halls, don’t forget your front entry. This unique swag is great for exterior coach lights, or a modern take on the traditional greenery wreath for the front door. Incorporate greenery — holly, Frazier fir, hemlock, or cedar — to create the base of your wintery look. Spray white glitter paint on the tips of the greenery for a frosted effect, and then add a big holiday bow to complete an inviting look.
Cork Reindeer — Invite a herd of reindeer into your home for a happy touch of Christmas cheer. These easy and fun decorations are made from wine bottle corks, and are decorated with a few sticks, jingle bells, small red pompoms, and a string to tie the bell on. Of course, you can vary the colors used for the pompoms and bells to make your reindeer unique to your home’s Florida décor.
Marshmallow Snowman — Your kids will love this fun snowman as he melts into their hot chocolate to make it deliciously sweet - Especially since he’s reminiscent of Olaf from Frozen. Best of all, all you need to make these fun snowmen are marshmallows, candy corn, pretzel sticks, mini chocolate chips, and chocolate frosting. Who doesn’t love a craft they can eat?!
Create a Frosty Greeting — Decorate your door to create a Frosty greeting! Frosty the Snowman is always a Christmas favorite. Cardboard or colored poster board, ribbon and some sticky mounting putty are all you need to recreate this lovable snowman.
Thumbprint Reindeer Cards — There are so many fun craft ideas using thumbprints! Get your kids to put their personal print on thank you cards, gift tags, and holiday greeting cards. This little bit of personalization lets your friends and family know you are thinking of them, while keeping the kids occupied during the time off from school during the holidays!
Winter Snowball Wreath — Decorate your front door with this cheerful wreath. Start with Styrofoam balls or cheap ornaments of various sizes and wrap yarn or twine around them. Add snowflakes, festive ribbon, or other custom items to make them unique to your Florida home’s decor.
Spell it Out — Add a little NOEL, JOY or JINGLE to your décor. Visit your local hobby or craft store to buy the letters, spray paint a solid color, and then add a festive stenciled pattern in a contrasting color. It is easy to be Joanna Gaines with the right tools!
Christmas Stockings — Santa is going to say “ho, ho, ho쳌 when he sees your customized stockings. These can be as simple as personalizing store-bought stockings with family names, or as unique as making them yourself if you know how to knit, crochet or sew!
